This two-year structured program aims to improve the recruitment and retention of allied health professionals. It assists recent graduates transitioning to the workplace. The program has supported allied health graduates across eight disciplines at seven sites.

Environmental Sustainability Award​

The Environmental Sustainability Award​ recognises the achievements of our health system and workforce to reduce our environmental footprint, whilst continuing to deliver high quality healthcare and patient experience.

Northern Sydney Local Health District

Carbon Footprint and Pathway to Net Zero

This evidence-based project calculated baseline carbon emissions and mapped a pathway to net zero. This research informed the development of the NSLHD Planetary Health Framework 2024-2027, guiding the district’s activities for the next four years.

Excellence in Aboriginal Healthcare Award

The Excellence in Aboriginal Healthcare Award recognises efforts to develop and deliver high-quality, culturally appropriate, and accessible health services for Aboriginal people, designed in collaboration with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

South Western Sydney Local Health District

Culture Leading the Way

This project improves access to paediatric allied healthcare for Aboriginal children through a culturally led partnership. The hub has provided 542 appointments to Aboriginal children, improving coordination of culturally responsive care and child health outcomes.

The Excellence in Multicultural Healthcare Award recognises exceptional healthcare delivery for people from multicultural backgrounds through strong partnerships across NSW Health and external agencies.

Virtual Health Interpreters

Video interpreting at Nepean Women and Children’s outpatients allows patients to participate confidently in their healthcare planning and make informed decisions. It supports better health outcomes for multicultural and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Excellence in the Provision of Mental Health Services Award

The Excellence in the Provision of Mental Health Services Award recognises and showcases work in improving the quality and safety of mental health patient care within programs and services.

Aboriginal Mental Health Transfer of Care

This model provides short-term (6-8 week) support to assist patients move from hospital to community care. The team offers early support, helps navigate care, and manages discharge for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients with mental health needs.

Health Innovation Award

The Health Innovation Award​ recognises innovative models of care, technology-led innovation and devices within healthcare settings, digital-enablement innovations and investments in infrastructure, systems, security and intelligence.

Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network, Mid North Coast LHD, NSW Health Pathology and NSW Ministry of Health

NSW Dried Blood Spot Hepatitis C Validation Study

The Dried Blood Spot (DBS) test is used to diagnose hepatitis C (HCV). If approved in 2025, it will be the first of its kind in Australia. This innovation will improve access to HCV testing for vulnerable populations and help NSW Health eliminate hepatitis C as a public health issue by 2028.

The Health Research Award recognises incredible efforts within the research space to advance patient care.

Oral Insulin

Oral insulin is a new alternative for people with diabetes, where only injection treatments are available. The team aims to improve the treatment of diabetes and prevent significant long-term impacts. Oral insulin set for clinical trials in early 2025.

Improving Physical and Mental Health in People with Severe Obesity

This holistic multidisciplinary model improves access to care and enhances the physical and mental health for people with severe obesity. It has shown significant improvements in obesity related co-morbidities, quality of life, psychological distress and eating disorders.

The Patient Safety First Award acknowledges a commitment to putting patient safety first every day.

Clinical Excellence Commission and NSW Ministry of Health

NSW Medicines Formulary

This state-wide rollout of a medication formulary (list) for over 200 NSW public hospitals has saved almost $100 million in the first financial year. The formulary promotes consistent, equitable and efficient healthcare delivery and procurement.

The People and Culture Award award recognises projects that support our workforce to deliver safe, reliable, person-centred care that drives the best outcomes and experience for patients and staff.

Parental Leave Understanding and Support (PLUS) Program

This initiative provides comprehensive return to work support for new parents working in emergency medicine. The program includes mentorship, dedicated wellness sessions, breastfeeding support and a family room for psychological and physical wellbeing.

Transforming Patient Experience Award

The Transforming Patient Experience Award acknowledges projects and programs that reflect meaningful and active collaboration between the patient, their families and carers and the health care team to improve health outcomes.

The RPA Virtual Wound Care Command Centre

The nurse-led Wound Command Centre uses an artificial intelligence wound app for immediate specialist services. It improves continuity of care, and reduced wait times and travel costs. The app has decreased average healing time and reduced average wound size by 48%.

The Staff Member of the Year award recognises someone who has made an exceptional contribution to public health through collaboration.

Dr Nhi Nguyen

Nepean Blue Mountains and NSW Ministry of Health

Dr Nhi Nguyen is the Clinical Director of Intensive Care NSW and was the ICU Clinical Advisor for the COVID- 19 response. She has been involved in the Single Digital Patient Record program and is the clinical lead for the Nepean Hospital Redevelopment.

Volunteer of the Year

The Volunteer of the Year award recognises the significant contribution of an individual to volunteering within NSW Health.

Margaret King

Murrumbidgee Local Health District

For over a decade, Margaret has been a volunteer and health advocate. As Chair of the Griffith Local Health Advisory Committee, she has been involved in the redevelopment of Griffith Base Hospital and advocated for refugee and migrant communities.

Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District

Margaret has volunteered with the district for six years. Every week, she and her husband Tony, bring gifts and cakes to staff and patients. She is a volunteer with lived experience and giving back is how she shows her support for mental health inpatients and thanks to staff.
