Winner: Volunteer of the Year
Margaret has been a volunteer with the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District Mental Health Service for 6 years. Every week, she and her husband Tony visit the Mirrabook Mental Health Unit to bring gifts and cakes to staff and patients.
Margaret collaborates openly with Woolworths to arrange donations for the inpatients. Each Christmas, Margaret and her husband prepare self-funded gifts for the patients. Staff hand these out on Christmas day, which boosts morale and empowers patients, particularly those who may not have family or friends.
Margaret is a volunteer with lived experience and giving back is her way of showing her care and support for the mental health inpatient consumers and appreciation to the staff.
Her dedication and kindness have inspired many staff members and helped thousands of patients over the last 6 years. She expects nothing in return for her generosity, which positively impacts the lives of many patients.
