Healthcare is a universal right, to be offered and received without fear or discrimination.

We are committed to treating every person in our care with kindness, respect, and compassion.

We are here for you.

Our workforce and the community

NSW Health is home to a diverse workforce of more than 180,000 people:

Inclusive and respectful care

NSW Health’s services are built on a foundation of Collaboration, Openness, Respect, and Empowerment (CORE Values). These values guide how we treat our patients, support our staff, and engage with the broader community.

Our CORE Values in action

Collaboration

We work together to provide the best possible care, recognising the contributions of all healthcare staff.

Openness

We seek to understand diverse perspectives, learn, and continuously improve healthcare delivery.

Respect

Every individual is valued. We listen, understand, and ensure dignity for all.

Empowerment

We trust and enable our healthcare professionals to take ownership of their work, making decisions that benefit the health and well-being of all people.

The NSW Health Culture and Staff Experience Framework sets the direction and behavioural expectations for developing our workplace culture and cultivating a positive staff experience that brings out the best in everyone.

It identifies the behaviours that contribute to a professional, kind and inclusive team culture and is underpinned by the NSW CORE Values.

The NSW Health Code of Conduct assists with building a positive workplace culture based on our core values. It defines standards of ethical and professional conduct that are required of everyone working in NSW Health in any capacity, the outcomes we are committed to, and the behaviours which are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

What NSW Health is doing to promote inclusive healthcare

NSW Health is committed to ensuring that everyone receives safe, compassionate, and high-quality care. Here’s how we are fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and safe healthcare system for all:

  • Diversity and inclusion training: Our staff undergo ongoing education to understand and respond to the needs of different cultural and social groups.
  • Culturally responsive care: We collaborate with community leaders to improve healthcare access and experiences for all communities.
  • Community safety initiatives: We are investing in programs that ensure safe healthcare spaces, including increased security for faith-based facilities and multicultural health initiatives.
  • Anti-discrimination and hate prevention: We stand against all forms of discrimination, ensuring that our services are free from bias and that every patient is treated with dignity and respect.
  • Enhanced patient support services: We provide language and interpreter services, accessible healthcare information, and culturally appropriate care options.
