Between 2018 and 2022, the number of reported births to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander mothers rose from 4,270 to 5,021, representing 4.5% and 5.5% respectively of all babies born in NSW. In 2022, 4,837 babies were born to Aboriginal mothers, 58 babies were born to Torres Strait Islander mothers and 126 babies were born to mothers of both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background.
