Feeling the joy of helping

Hear from speech pathologist Saffron who answered the call for help and joined NSW Health’s Deployment Program.

Saffron on deployment with the NSW Health Deployment Program"Dear diary,

I have been lucky enough to have experienced three deployments now - six weeks in Cootamundra, two and a half weeks in Tumut, and three months in Singleton!

I was deployed as a speech pathologist to provide assessments and intervention plans which helped to reduce waiting lists and pressure on health services. It feels good to help out and the experience I have gained in a range of clinical areas is invaluable.

It’s so hard to pick a favourite place, but a stand out for me was being invited to join a fabulous trivia group in Cootamundra (who of course came second the entire time I was there and won the week I left...). I also loved exploring towns and the surrounding areas. The Snowy Valleys truly is an underrated area within NSW. My time exploring bushwalks and bodies of water are something I won’t forget anytime soon... I am already planning future adventures to the area!"
