The Health Professionals Workforce Plan 2012-2022 (Original Plan) provided a high level overview of the strategies that needed to be implemented to ensure that NSW could train, recruit and retain health professionals to continue to provide a quality health service to the people of NSW.
It was developed by the Health Professionals Workforce Taskforce following consultation that started in October 2011 with the release of a discussion paper and a technical paper.
In late 2014 and early 2015, a review of the plan was undertaken to ensure the targets to be delivered over the life of the plan remained relevant, appropriate and fit for purpose. While the review found that the future targets continued to remain relevant, some adjustments were made to reflect recent changes to the NSW Health landscape. The revised version Health Professionals Workforce Plan (Revised Plan) was released in September 2015.
The implementation of the plan was evaluated by the NSW Ministry of Health. These findings were summarised in a series of progress reports:
