You may not have heard of allied health but we have been in your life all along, caring for you every step of the way.
I may not have thanked you at the time ... but I do remember.
Sonography
I remember how vulnerable I felt ... as I waited for the heartbeat to appear.
Audiology
How relieved I was ... as he turned towards the sounds.
Genetic counselling
I remember the difficult times ... when nothing seemed to make sense.
Child life therapy
The times when ... I had to be patient ... to get through the tests.
Speech pathology
And the happier times ... when she realised she could be understood.
Orthotics and prosthetics
I remember the care of my allied health team ... as I learned to walk independently for the first time.
Physiotherapy
How worried I was ... that she would never walk again.
Counselling
There were times when life didn't ... turn out the way I had hoped
Psychology
...or the way I expected. My allied health team helped me get my life back on track.
They worked closely with my medical and nursing team...
Nutrition and dietetics
...to nourish my body after my operation.
Exercise physiology
I learnt how to exercise ...without the risk.
Orthoptics
How to see clearly ... for the first time in a while.
Pharmacy
How to breathe ... through the fire season.
During all the health challenges ... that life put me through.
Radiography
My allied health and medical team .... worked together.
Occupational therapy
To help me enjoy my life again.
Social work
I may not have had an opportunity ... to say thank you ... but I do remember how it felt ... to have someone by my side.
