NSW Population Health Survey

The NSW Population Health Survey (the Survey) is an annual survey of people living in New South Wales. The Survey collects information about a range of health risk factors and health behaviours.

NSW Health uses the information gathered from the Survey to better understand the community's health needs and to monitor health status and health behaviours. Summary results from the Survey are published on the NSW Population Health Survey methods and results page and HealthStats NSW.

The Survey is conducted by Wallis Social Research, for NSW Health, either by telephone or online. For those invited to complete the survey online, an invitation letter is sent by mail.

NSW Health encourages people who are contacted to participate in the Survey.

If you have any concerns or comments about the Survey and wish to speak to someone from the NSW Ministry of Health, a representative can be reached on (02) 9391 9008 (Monday to Friday: 9am to 5pm).

  • The NSW Population Health Survey is conducted either by telephone or online. Wallis Social Research telephones NSW residents at random to invite them to complete the Survey over the phone.

For the online component, a random sample of people from households across NSW will receive an invitation to complete the Survey online via a letter.

If you receive a letter but cannot complete the Survey online, you can call Wallis on 1800 WALLIS (1800 925 547) to make an appointment to complete the Survey over the phone.

  • The main aims of the Survey are to provide information on the health of adults and children in NSW and to support planning, implementation and evaluation of health services and programs in NSW.

  • All information collected remains confidential and anonymous and is used to provide information on the health of adults and children in NSW. The results of the Survey can be found on NSW Population Health Survey methods and results.
