What is Nurturing Connections?

Nurturing Connections is a community program that can support you and your child to thrive.

A small, caring team can help you manage the many feelings and challenges you face as a caregiver.

We do this by:

  • working with your strengths to help build a stronger bond between you and your child
  • nurturing your mental health and your child’s emotional wellbeing
  • helping you guide your child’s development through play
  • connecting you with other parents, playgroups and programs.

The Nurturing Connections team includes professionals from child and family health, mental health, allied health and peer support workers.

We also connect you with local community organisations with resources that can help you and your child with:

  • financial needs
  • social needs
  • housing and
  • early childhood education services.

The program is for 6-9 months, but flexible around your needs and choices.

Is the Nurturing Connections Program for me?

We can help and support you through the program if you are:

  • pregnant or a primary caregiver of a child under 5 years old
  • facing mental health issues and trauma (such as family conflict)
  • going through hardship (finding a home, financial stress)
  • living in or near the areas the program is offered.

How can Nurturing Connections support me?

  • We will help you to be more confident as a caregiver and to nurture your bond with your child.
  • You will meet other caregivers to share ideas, support each other and build stronger social connections.
  • We can support you with mental health care, in-home visits, child and caregiver relationships, playgroups and activities for your child's emotional wellbeing.

Where is the Nurturing Connections Program available?

  • Kempsey in the Mid North Coast Local Health District
  • Hurstville and Sutherland to Eastern Suburbs in South Eastern Sydney Local Health District
