Children Young People and Families Executive Steering Committee (CYPFESC)

The CYPFESC met on 19 February 2024. The meeting included a patient story on the Out of Home Care Health Pathway Program from the Central Coast Local Health District. The committee noted that the Health Pathway Program aims to increase access to early intervention and improve outcomes for children and young people in out of home care.

Aboriginal child and family health is one of CYPFESC's priority areas for 2024. Four invited attendees presented to the committee on key projects in this area. The focus for each presentation was how the project will support delivery of the NSW Health Future Health Strategy and contributions to Closing the Gap priorities. The committee noted that a range of programs are aiming to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal children, young people and families, and that there are opportunities for future work in coordinating services and agencies to work together in this space.

The Children, Young People and Families Governance Structure

CYPFESC discussed further refinements to the NSW Health governance structure for children, young people and families. A strong governance structure, made up of committees that have a clear scope and workplan, will enable the system to address strategic priorities and ensure clinicians in the system have a pathway for escalation to the right committee for action and advocacy.

The Children's Healthcare Network review

The committee heard an update on the review of the CHN, which now has an established governance structure and project leads. The new CHN is expected to be operational by mid-2024 and will have a clear workplan and deliverables.
