Children Young People and Families Executive Steering Committee (CYPFESC)

The CYPFESC met on Friday 21 June 2024.

Youth health

The Committee reflected on the topic of the previous meeting, Youth Health, which is one of the Committee's priority areas for 2024.  The Committee acknowledged the importance of awareness and equity of access to the programs presented. The Committee was also provided with an update about the new youth health strategy, which is under development.

Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN)

The Committee heard a presentation from the Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN). The presentation began with the meetings patient story: Mei's story.

The Committee heard about the Australian Child Maltreatment Study (ACMS) summary and resources. The study found that up to 60% of children surveyed experience some form of maltreatment. Some children experience more than one type of abuse, with experience of domestic violence occurring in up to 40% of children.

The Committee also heard about the Integrated Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse and Neglect Framework, which is applicable to all NSW Health services.

Children Young People and Families Health Network (CYPFHN)

The committee heard an overview of progress of transition of the Children's Healthcare Network to the Children, Young People and Families Health Network (CYPFHN).

Special Commission of Inquiry into Healthcare Funding

The committee discussed topics from the Special Commission of Inquiry into Healthcare Funding including the relationship between districts and specialty health networks, governance, funding and coordination. The Inquiry recognised and acknowledged the importance of care of children across the state.

The committee discussed potential outcomes of the Inquiry including a strategic plan from a statewide level and/or plans that focus on operational matters and provide clarity of accountability for care of children from a statewide perspective.
