The CYPFESC met on Tuesday 13 August 2024.

 

Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN)

The Committee reflected on the topic of the previous meeting, Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN), which is one of the Committee's priority areas for 2024. 

The Committee acknowledged the challenge for health professionals, where PARVAN presentations can be complex and require a coordinated cross government response.
The Committee noted the NSW Auditor General's report Oversight of the child protection system published in June 2024.

 

CYPFESC Lead Committee - Paediatrics and Child Health in the Middle Years (PCHM)

The Committee heard an update on the first meeting of the CYPFESC Lead Committee - Paediatrics and Child Health in the Middle Years (PCHM). The Committee discussed priorities and the challenges in providing equitable access to care throughout NSW. The Committee also discussed the development of a strategic plan for paediatrics. It was agreed that CYPFESC will have oversight of the development process, and the Lead Committee, Paediatrics and Child Health in the Middle Years will lead work on drafting the plan.

 

Single Digital Patient Record (SDPR)

The Committee heard a presentation from Dr Teresa Anderson, Chief Executive, Single Digital Patient Record (SDPR) Implementation Authority. Dr Anderson provided an overview of the SDPR. The Committee discussed that the needs of children and young people and that functionality will be required across every system. Consultation with CYPFESC will be ongoing to ensure the needs of children and young people are met.

 

Paediatric subspecialty services working group

The Committee heard an update about the paediatric subspecialty services work group. The aim of the Group is to ensure that children and young people receive access to subspecialty care as close to home as possible. The Group is developing principals to guide the work, which will be presented at the CYPFESC meeting in November.
