Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to drive transformative change in healthcare and is already doing so in many ways.
At NSW Health, several AI initiatives are already in place helping us to do things like deliver better wound care, simplify complex data analysis, save time by automating repetitive processes or reviewing volumes of cardiology literature to aid in clinical decision-making, and much more.
As we continue to harness the potential and innovations associated with AI, NSW Health also remains committed to managing risks as well as maximising the benefits.
Following an expression of interest process, a dedicated NSW Health AI Taskforce has been established to help inform and guide the use of AI in the public health system.
Comprising approximately 25 subject matter experts and senior leaders from across NSW Health, the AI Taskforce will be supported by working groups to develop an AI Framework for release in 2024.
The Framework will encompass important elements such as governance, communication, skills and capability, assets and intellectual property, data governance, and align with national and state government frameworks.
The Taskforce is co-chaired by A/Professor Jean-Frédéric Levesque, Deputy Secretary, Clinical Innovation and Research, and Dr Zoran Bolevich, Chief Executive, eHealth NSW, and Chief Information Officer, NSW Health.
Meet the members of the NSW Health AI Taskforce.
More information will be shared as it becomes available, or you can email enquiries to MOH-AI-mailbox@health.nsw.gov.au.
Watch the video below with A/Professor Jean-Frédéric Levesque, Deputy Secretary, Clinical Innovation and Research, as he shares our plans for AI.
The Hon Ryan Park, Minister for Health, joins the first meeting of the NSW Health Artificial Intelligence (AI) Taskforce to discuss the potential of AI to drive transformative change in healthcare. Building on the NSW Government Artificial Intelligence Assurance Framework, the Taskforce is coordinating the development of a complementary NSW Health Framework, to support the successful and safe adoption of AI throughout the system.
