The Chief Allied Health Officer (CAHO) provides leadership and strategic direction for allied health professionals across the NSW Health system. The role provides expert advice and consultation on strategy, policy, governance, clinical and professional matters impacting allied health professionals and the care they provide to patients.
The CAHO's priorities align with NSW Health strategies and initiatives, including the First 2000 Days, aged care, disability, mental health, preventative health, and workforce development. A key focus is expanding and enhancing allied health scopes of practice to better meet patient and system needs.
The Office of the Chief Allied Health Officer supports the CAHO and promotes the critical role and importance of allied health professionals in the NSW Health system in achieving the best health outcomes for patients. The Office works closely with Ministry of Health divisions and branches, Local Health Districts, Speciality Health Networks, Pillar organisations, and other Government agencies.

The Chief Allied Health Officer works closely with allied health peak professional bodies, the non-government sector and is an active member of the National Allied Health Advisors and Chief Officers Committee, collaborating with Chief Allied Health Officers from each jurisdiction and the Australian Government.
