​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The NSW Population Health Survey (the Survey) is an annual survey of people living in New South Wales. In 2024, the Survey is seeking participants through telephone and postal surveys, with the postal survey being completed online. The Survey collects information about a range of health risk factors and health behaviours.

NSW Health uses the information gathered from the Survey to better understand the community’s health needs and to monitor health status and health behaviours. Summary results from the Survey are published on the NSW Health website and HealthStats NSW​​​​.

People are randomly selected from households across NSW to participate in the Survey. Participation in the Survey is voluntary. Any information provided in the Survey will remain anonymous and we will not publish any identifying information.

NSW Health encourages people who are contacted to participate in the Survey.

  • The telephone component of the NSW Population Health Survey is currently administered by The Social Research Centre Pty Ltd, on behalf of NSW Health.

    The Social Research Centre will be conducting interviews during the following hours:
    Monday to Friday: 9am to 8:30pm
    Saturday: 11am to 5pm
    Sunday: 11am to 5pm (as required)

  • In 2024, a random sample of people from households across New South Wales are also being invited to complete the Survey online, through a letter of invitation sent by mail. NSW Health is conducting this online survey to evaluate this method of collecting information for the Survey. The online survey component is administered by Ipsos Public Affairs Pty Ltd on behalf of NSW Health.

    The information collected through the online survey will be combined with the information collected through the telephone-based survey to produce results for the NSW community.​
