NSW residents can help combat COVID-19 as social and outdoor
activities pick up by staying 1.5 metres apart and getting tested every time
they have symptoms.
Dr Kerry Chant, the Chief Health Officer for NSW, has asked residents to guard against complacency, with high testing numbers critical to finding new cases and controlling the spread of COVID-19.
“We have low levels of transmission in the community,” Dr
Chant said.
"We have to maintain our vigilance, and I would also
like to urge people to come forward for testing,” she said.
Two new cases were recorded in the past 24 hours, with 9,737
tests completed over the period.
The source of both cases is under investigation. One was a
student at St Ignatius College Riverview whose close contacts have been advised
to isolate and quarantine.
Dr Chant praised the school’s swift action once it learned
of the student’s positive test result.
The other case was a man who returned to Sydney from
Victoria, where he is believed to have contracted the virus. NSW Health
authorities are working with their counterparts in Victoria to identify the
source.
NSW Health is treating 94 people for COVID-19, with three in
intensive care and two on ventilators.
