The Central Sydney Tai Chi Trial

Summary

The Central Sydney Tai Chi Trial was a randomised control trial investigating the effectiveness of an introductory tai chi program in reducing the risk of falling among community-dwelling people aged 60 years or over. The results showed that a relatively simple community-based program of introductory tai chi, consisting of a one-hour class per week, reduced the risk of falling by 35 percent in the study population. The​ trial was funded under the NSW Health Promotion Demonstration Research Grants Scheme.
