Transcript for What is All of Us
KA McKercher, they/them (Independent facilitator): All of Us as a guide to respectful, consumer, carer, and community engagement.
There are six ways of working and tools for facilitators, for helpers, and for hosts. The six ways of working come from co-design, from broad consultation with over 160 carers, consumers, community members and staff, and a review of loads of existing frameworks.
Jessica Smith (Aboriginal and cultural diversity engagement officer):I think that All of Us is really important for New South Wales Health as a whole for us to be able to have a resource that provides guidance and support for staff to work in a more safe and meaningful way with consumers, carers, and loved ones, to elevate the voice of the people that we work with, and ensure that those voices and perspectives are included in the work that we do in New South Wales Health.
And they are embedded into the, the decisions that we make and it's reflective of those who we are working with. I think that All of Us is important because it not only provides sort of a framework, but it also really shows us and guides us through those inclusive engagement principles and practices and making sure that we are undertaking the engagement in the most safe and respectful way possible.
KA McKercher, they/them (Independent facilitator): We call the six ways of working core ingredients. So, we might all make a recipe a little bit different, but there are some things that have just gotta be in there.
Safety, accessibility, honesty, diversity, and sharing power for making decisions and deciding who gets to be in the room. We've gotta be welcoming and we've gotta mean it. So, without those things, those core ingredients, when there's not enough of them, our ways of working only include some of us.
Jenni Smith (Carer and design crew member): So, carers want to work in partnership with you. They need to work in partnership with you, and it's the only way that we can really have positive outcomes for All of Us. And hence the name of the framework. All of Us.
Megan Alston, she/her (Experience team, Ministry of Health) All of Us, has been developed as part of the elevating the Human Experience program of work.
It's not intended to replace frameworks and guides that already exist in local health districts, specialty health networks, pillars, shared services, or statewide services.
It's intended to be a supportive resource that can be integrated with or used alongside existing materials. All of Us is primarily aimed at New South World's health staff who are planning or leading engagement, but it will also be available to the consumers, carers, and communities who engage with us.
The Guide is a website rather than a single document. It has videos, a starter pack of tools and tips to support people leading and taking part in different engagement activities.
We encourage people to adapt the guidance and tools to their own specific context. All of Us aligns with the Future Health Strategic framework and the regional Health strategic plan.
KA McKercher, they/them (Independent facilitator): So, if you have been engaging for 20 years or two months, we hope that you'll be curious and you'll find something valuable in the tools, the videos, the tips and the words.
Consumers and staff have worked really hard to make this for you. And if we can make sure that All of Us have good experiences when we're engaging in groups and workshops and events and committees and research that we are all included, then we know that there will be better health outcomes for All of Us.
