New Zealand arrivals

11 March 2021

As of 12.01am on Friday, 12 March, new rules will apply for people who arrive in NSW from New Zealand.

People who have been in Auckland in the past 14 days will be exempt from hotel quarantine provided that they seek testing for COVID-19 after arriving in NSW. They must self-isolate in their accommodation until they receive a negative result.

NSW Health will follow up arrivals from Auckland if a negative test is not recorded for them, to inform them of their obligations.

If a person has only been in Auckland airport after flying into Auckland airport from another part of New Zealand, they will not be required to quarantine or self-isolate on arrival in NSW.

People arriving from New Zealand who wish to travel to other states or territories should check the local requirements that apply in that jurisdiction.

New Zealand is considered to present a low risk of COVID-19, with no more new cases reported in the recent Auckland cluster since 28 February. A case in an air crew member was reported by New Zealand authorities on 7 March but this person is thought to be of low risk to the Auckland community.

NSW Health continues to monitor the situation and will update advice as appropriate to protect the NSW community.

While the state has had no new locally transmitted COVID cases for more than 50 days, NSW Health continues to urge anyone with even the mildest cold-like symptoms to come forward immediately for testing, then isolate until they receive a negative result.

There are more than 350 COVID-19 testing locations across NSW, many of which are open seven days a week. Find your nearest covid testing clinic visit or contact your GP.
