Work will soon be underway at the Gunnedah Hospital Redevelopment site with a builder appointed to deliver the $53 million dollar project.
Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said Richard Crookes Constructions has been engaged following a competitive tender process.
“This is an exciting milestone for the redevelopment which will deliver enhanced healthcare services and facilities for the Gunnedah community, Mr Park said.
“All hospital services will continue to operate onsite during construction, which follows significant planning and design work by the project team, in collaboration with staff, stakeholders and the community.
“It’s great to hear the construction team will be onsite from later this month to commence early works which will include the establishment of some temporary service locations.”
The redevelopment project will deliver a new acute services building, which will house an expanded emergency department and a modern birthing, maternity and inpatient unit.
A new main entry and reception will also be created through refurbishment of the former community health entry.
Labor Spokesperson for Tamworth Anthony D’Adam said the start of construction is a welcome milestone for the Gunnedah community.
“This much-needed redevelopment is part of the Minns Government’s commitment to improving healthcare in rural and regional areas,” Mr D’Adam said.
An Arts Working Group has been established to ensure the new hospital is a welcoming environment that reflects the heritage and culture of the region.
Richard Crookes Construction has been working with the project team since early 2023.
Main works construction is expected to begin in early 2024 and is due to be completed in late 2025.
