Construction is underway on the $55 million Bowral & District Hospital Stage 2 Redevelopment, which will deliver a new Outpatients Centre and enhanced back-of-house services.
Minister for Health Ryan Park said the Bowral Hospital redevelopment Stage 2 will provide the local Southern Highlands community with expanded clinical services and capacity to meet their future healthcare needs.
“The building which dates back to the 1930s, will become a new purpose-built, digitally-equipped Outpatients Centre, which will include allied health care, cardiac assessment and a suite of medical clinics,” Mr Park said.
“It is wonderful to see this significant building receiving a new lease on life so it can continue to provide care for the local community to meet their health needs well into the future.
“The original hospital on the grounds, which opened in 1889, and the beautiful magnolia trees across the site, will also be preserved for the community in Bowral.”
Work is also underway on the new Aboriginal Dreaming Garden which will provide a welcoming and supportive space for patients, staff and visitors.
The community is being encouraged to learn more and have their say on the Stage 2 Redevelopment at information sessions on:Wednesday, 26 April from 11am to 1pm and 5pm to 7pm.
The drop-in sessions will be held in the lecture theatre in the original hospital building with access from Ascot Road.
The Bowral Hospital Stage 2 redevelopment is being completed in stages, with a new and expanded renal dialysis unit, pharmacy and sterilising department now completed and available to the local community.
The hospital’s new clinical services building, completed in 2020 and the centrepiece of the $68.7 million Stage 1 Redevelopment, is providing much needed care to the Southern Highlands community.
“The contemporary clinical services building includes an emergency department, operating theatres, adult and paediatric inpatient wards with their own ensuites, rehabilitation spaces and maternity and birthing suites,’’ Mr Park said.
To minimise disruption to the operational facility, the project will be delivered in a phased construction sequence with works expected to be completed progressively between 2024 and 2025.
