NSW recorded three new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.
Eight cases were also recorded in returned travellers, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 4,829.
There were 18,570 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 23,763.
Following a drop in testing numbers over the weekend, NSW Health is again asking everyone to continue to come forward for testing if they have even the mildest symptoms that could signal COVID-19, such as a runny nose or scratchy throat. After testing, you must remain in isolation until a negative result is received.
Of the three locally acquired cases to 8pm last night:
A previously reported case that was under investigation has now been linked to the Avalon cluster, which now numbers 151 cases.
A case was notified overnight in a person who presented to Mount Druitt Emergency Department late on Saturday night 9 January with COVID-19 symptoms.
This individual was tested for COVID-19 and moved to an area of the Emergency Department reserved for suspected COVID-19 cases.
A positive COVID-19 result was received on the evening of Sunday 10 January and the patient was transferred to Westmead Hospital for treatment.
Urgent investigations and contact tracing are underway. Anyone determined to be at risk of possible exposure is being contacted and advised to get tested and isolate.
A new drive through clinic at the Blacktown International Sportspark, Eastern Road, Gate C, Rooty Hill is open from 10am today and will be open from 8am-10pm, seven days.
The Mount Druitt Emergency Department is undergoing deep cleaning and will shortly be operating as normal, with support from staff throughout Western Sydney Local Health District.
NSW Health last night announced several new venues in Sydney’s south-west and inner-west that are associated with today’s new locally acquired cases. Please check the NSW Government website and follow the health advice if you were at any of these locations at the times listed.

NSW Health is treating 108 COVID-19 cases, none of whom is in intensive care. Most cases (99 per cent) are being treated in non-acute, out-of-hospital care, including returned travellers in the Special Health Accommodation.
