Five new cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, bringing the total number of cases in NSW to 3,915.
There were 30,339 tests reported in the 24-hour reporting period, compared with 23,169 in the previous 24 hours.
Of the five new cases to 8pm last night:
All four local cases are contacts of previously reported cases linked to the CBD cluster, bringing the total linked to this cluster to 61.
One of today’s cases attended Kuleto’s Cocktail Bar at 157 King Street, Newtown, between 6.30pm and 9.30pm on Friday 28 August. Anyone there for at least one hour during this time must immediately get tested and isolate for 14 days since attending - until midnight on 11 September. These people must stay isolated for the entire period, even if a negative test result is received. The venue has been closed for cleaning.
A further case involving an emergency department health professional was reported overnight and this case will be included in tomorrow’s numbers.
The health professional worked two shifts while potentially infectious. The first shift was at Concord Hospital emergency department on 1 September from 2pm to midnight and the second shift was at Liverpool Hospital emergency department on 3 September from 8am to 6pm.
The health professional wore full personal protective equipment at all times while in contact with patients and a surgical mask at all other times. They became unwell on 4 September and immediately got tested and isolated. Investigations into the source of this infection and contact tracing are underway. All patients and staff members who were in contact with the health professional are being contacted and advised to get tested and self-isolate.
Locations linked to known cases, advice on testing and isolation, and areas identified for increased testing can be found at NSW Government - Latest new and updates.
NSW Health is treating 94 COVID-19 cases, including six in intensive care, four of whom are being ventilated. Eighty-five per cent of cases being treated by NSW Health are in non-acute, out-of-hospital care.
NSW Health confirms the advice for residents of the Sydney Metropolitan, Nepean Blue Mountains and Central Coast regions to not visit friends and family in aged care facilities will continue tomorrow. This decision has been reached after careful consideration of the risks of COVID-19 being introduced into an aged care facility while the CBD cluster is brought under control.
While we understand and acknowledge this will be difficult for many families on Father’s Day, our priority is to prevent the spread of the virus to the most vulnerable people in the community. We encourage people to make the best of the COVID safe measures the aged care sector has put in place to make contact with their loved ones, including through audio visual links and window visits.
COVID-19 continues to circulate in the community and we must all be vigilant. To help stop the spread of COVID-19:
