As at 8pm, Friday 17 April 2020, an additional 10 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed since 8pm 16 April, bringing the total to 2,936.
During that time, 5,152 people were tested, around 160 more tests compared to the previous 24 hours.
There are currently 253 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health. This includes 25 people being treated in Intensive Care Units, with 18 of those requiring ventilators.
There have been two deaths related to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
An 83 year old man, with a range of co-morbidities and confirmed COVID-19, has passed away today at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He was a Queensland resident and passenger on Celebrity Eclipse, an overseas cruise ship that docked in San Diego.
A 58 year old female who suffered a range of co-morbidities died in Tamworth hospital on 16 April. A test, available yesterday (17 April), shows she was positive for COVID-19.
NSW Health extends condolences to both families.
There has been one more confirmed case of COVID-19 at the Anglicare Newmarch House aged care facility in Caddens since yesterday, bringing the total to 30 cases (10 staff and 20 residents). Visitor restrictions remain in place and contact tracing continues.
The source of the initial infection is under investigation. All residents and staff have been tested, with results pending. Confirmed cases currently have mild, or no symptoms.
There are nine additional Ruby Princess crew members who have tested positive to COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases on board to 162. There are also 13 Ruby Princess crew members with COVID-19 in NSW Health facilities.
Crew members have been tested progressively, beginning with those who first developed symptoms. To gain a better understanding of whether crew were developing immunity, testing was expanded.
Almost all crew have now been tested, and testing of the remaining few are expected to be completed today. The results of the tests are expected to be back in the next 24 to 48 hours.

NSW Health is alerting passengers who were close contacts on flights to monitor for symptoms, and contact their GP, but call ahead first, or call healthdirect on 1800 022 222, or visit a NSW Health COVID-19/Flu assessment clinic should they become unwell.
