Our marching in Mardi Gras has enabled the celebration of who we are and what we stand for.
St Vincent's Health Network Sydney has a strong legacy born from the pioneering work of the Sisters of Charity, through to our care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS in Ward 17 South. Now we are coming together to create a healthcare service that fosters inclusion and belonging.
It is a wonderful and awesome opportunity to share in a space where both individually and collectively we can celebrate visibility, equity and belonging. Many people in the hospital system have waited a long time to march and represent St Vincent's Health Network Sydney. For some they are long time employees. The highlight for me is being able to share the experience, from conception to walking in the Parade, with people who have never marched before.
With a mental health background, I know all too well the over representation of the LGBTIQ+ communities in rates of mental health conditions, self-harm, suicide and psychological distress. The parade provides a platform to provide key messages to the wider community and as a health service it positions us to provide education and advocacy for our community.
Staying true to our values, St Vincent's Health Network Sydney continues to be a place where everyone is made to feel welcome, safe, respected and cared for without stigma or discrimination. I feel proud working for an organisation that reflects the community we serve while also staying committed to delivering the best care to all.
