Wholesale licence

A person or company located in NSW may not supply by wholesale any substance which is for therapeutic use in humans or animals included in Schedule 2, 3, 4 or 8 of the NSW Poisons List, unless they are licensed by the NSW Ministry of Health to do so.

Retail licence and private OTP clinic licence

A person may be licensed under the Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Regulation 2008 to sell substances in Schedule 2 of the NSW Poisons List from a retail shop or supply drugs of addiction for the treatment of drug dependence.

Authority for research, analysis or instruction

A person in charge of a laboratory may apply for authorisation to possess :

  • substances in Schedule 8 and 9
  • prohibited substances in Schedule 1 of the NSW Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act 1985.

for the purpose of research, analysis or instruction.

Authority for cyanide or other Schedule 7 substances

Under the Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Regulation 2008, the supply and use of these Schedule 7 substances requires authorisation by the NSW Ministry of Health:

  • Arsenic
  • Cyanides
  • Fluoroacetamide
  • Fluoroacetic acid
  • Hydrocyanic acid
  • Strychnine
  • Thallium
