Medicines, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods legislation update

The Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act 1966 (NSW) (the Act) and the Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Regulation 2008 (NSW) (the Regulation) under the Act, is the primary legislative framework that regulates the supply of medicines, poisons, and therapeutic goods in New South Wales.

The Act is to be replaced by the Medicines, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act 2022 (NSW) (MPTG Act) which was passed in NSW Parliament in November 2022. The MPTG Act will commence following the finalisation of the Medicines, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Regulation in 2025.

Once a commencement date of the new MPTG Act and Regulation is set, Pharmaceutical Services will be collaborating with stakeholders to raise awareness of the legislative changes relevant to each profession and practice. Updates will be posted on this page.
