Scholarships are available to assist your dream of giving back to and caring for your community. With financial support provided by NSW Health, you can focus on your studies and continue your journey to becoming a nurse or midwife.

About the scholarships

NSW Health Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Undergraduate Scholarships of up to $1000 per subject are available for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students undertaking a Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery.

NSW Health Aboriginal Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse Scholarships of up to $15,000 per year are available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students employed as an Enrolled Nurse in a NSW Health facility and undertaking a Bachelor of Nursing.

    Applications close 11:59pm Sunday 23 February.

    March

    All candidates notified of recruitment outcome by Monday 10 March.

  • To be eligible to apply you must be:

    • be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
    • be known and accepted in the community that you live or have lived
    • currently be studying or about to study an undergraduate nursing or midwifery degree at university.

    You aren't eligible for this scholarship if you're currently on a NSW Health Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Cadetship.


  • As part of the application process, applicants must complete an online application form and provide:

    • a cover letter of no more than 500 words describing:
      • a statement of your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage
      • why you want to be a nurse or midwife
      • why it is important to have Aboriginal people working as nurses and midwives
      • how this scholarship will help you to complete your undergraduate nursing or midwifery studies
    • a resume outlining your educational qualifications and work experience
    • evidence of full-time enrolment in a Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery course
    • a copy of results (if applicable)
    • documentation that confirms your Aboriginality stating that you:
      • are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
      • identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and
      • are accepted as such in the community where you live.

    • details of two referees.
  • Prior to applications opening I have:

    • read the information available about the scholarship
    • checked that I am eligible to apply for the scholarship
    • marked all key dates in my diary
    • updated my resume
    • collected evidence of enrolment in a Bachelor of Nursing or Midwifery
    • collected evidence to corroborate my Aboriginality
    • written a cover letter.
