Leadership pathway in nursing and midwifery

Emerging/Clinical Leader

The emerging/clinical leader is a nurse or midwife who demonstrates leadership potential at any stage of their career. They need not have a career goal in management to be considered for leadership development.

 

Nursing/Midwifery Unit Manager

The N/MUM has a pivotal role in the leadership of safe and effective care as well as the management of human and material resources in the ward or unit. Leadership skills rather than management skills are the focus of professional development in this program.

 

Nurse/Midwifery Manager

The Nurse/Midwife Manager role is important to the effective operation of the system. According to the facility, and the level of the role designation, the individual is required to have a variety of management and leadership skills.

 

Director of Nursing and Midwifery

The Director of Nursing and Midwifery is responsible for the efficient and effective operational and strategic leadership and management of a comprehensive range of hospital/facility services.

 

LHD/SN Director of Nursing and Midwifery

The Director provides leadership to the nursing and midwifery professions across the LHD, and significant input into the development and oversight of local strategic and operational plans, policy, business and clinical services strategies and relationship management.
