Lead design team appointed for Fairfield Hospital Redevelopment

16 September 2024

Fairfield Hospital is a step closer to its biggest upgrade in 35 years with the appointment of the redevelopment project’s lead design team.

The NSW Government is investing $550 million to expand and upgrade Fairfield Hospital to meet the healthcare needs of the rapidly growing community in Sydney’s south-west.

In the coming months, the lead design team will work with Health Infrastructure and South Western Sydney Local Health District to identify future service requirements and commence early planning for the site.

The scope of the Fairfield Hospital redevelopment will be finalised during the planning and design phase and construction timeframes will be confirmed once a builder is engaged.

The redevelopment is also set to create local employment opportunities in health, technology, and support services.

The design team includes architect Architectus, and project manager Turner & Townsend and cost manager Genus Advisory, who were appointed following a competitive tender process.

Staff, stakeholders and the community will be kept informed and consulted as the project progresses.

In the 2024-25 NSW State Budget, the Minns Labor Government is investing more than $3.6 billion over four years for new and upgraded hospitals and health services across western Sydney, one of the largest investments in the region’s health infrastructure in recent years. Other projects include:

  • $1.3 billion to build the New Bankstown Hospital
  • Over $1 billion for the Nepean Hospital Stages 1 and 2 Redevelopment
  • $619 million for the Children’s Hospital at Westmead Stage 2 project
  • $350 million for Canterbury Hospital, in its first major redevelopment since 1998
  • $120 million for the expansion of Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals
  • $700 million for the new Rouse Hill Hospital redevelopment.
