Construction milestone for Wentworth Health Service Redevelopment

23 August 2024

The $30 million Wentworth Health Service Redevelopment has reached a significant milestone, with the new hospital's concrete slab now poured.

More than 40 trucks delivered approximately 340 cubic metres of concrete for the new hospital's foundation, which once built will include a contemporary 19-bed Inpatient Unit, Urgent Care Centre and community health services.

More than 18,000 tonnes of material brought in by more than 500 truckloads has formed the footprint for the new hospital structure, surrounding landscape, and car park.

The new hospital is being built on the existing hospital site, which is over 80 years old, and will be raised above the existing flood levee, with all inpatient rooms to have views over the Darling River at Wentworth.

The current hospital remains fully operational as the main works progress and every effort is being made to minimise disruption to staff, patients and visitors.

The redevelopment will also include a cultural piece for the hospital entry, a display wall featuring artwork by local school children, and a historical display to reflect the heritage of the hospital.

The hospital's artwork will celebrate local Barkandji history, Country and culture, and acknowledge the important role the hospital has played in the Wentworth community.

Construction of the Wentworth Health Service Redevelopment is expected to be completed in 2025. For more information, visit Wentworth Health Service Redevelopment.
