Local artists from Cooma and surrounding communities are being invited to contribute to the artwork planned for the $24 million Cooma Hospital Redevelopment, with the opportunity to be featured in the region’s health facility.
Minister for Health and Regional Health Ryan Park said the hospital is committed to engaging artists from across the region to create uplifting and meaningful spaces that will give the facility a unique connection to the local community and showcase Cooma’s culture and history.
“The arts initiative being delivered as part of the Cooma Hospital redevelopment is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the local creative talent and create a welcoming space for the community,” Mr Park said.
“We know exposure to the arts has a profoundly beneficial impact, helping to improve patient health and wellbeing outcomes as well as enhance the experience of staff, patients and visitors”.
Monaro MP, Steve Whan said he was encouraging local artists to get involved and submit Expressions of Interest.
“This is a great opportunity for a local artist to have their work showcased in the Cooma Hospital redevelopment” Mr Whan said.
The Expression of Interest opportunity is open to all artists residing within or with a connection to the Southern NSW Local Health District, which encompasses the South Coast, Southern Tablelands and Cooma-Monaro areas.
The initiative for the Cooma Hospital redevelopment forms part of Health Infrastructure’s Arts in Health Program which integrates arts in health facilities to create engaging public health spaces with a strong local identity.
Artworks can be existing or new works and artists interested in submitting an Expression of Interest should consider the physical, curatorial and emotional contexts of the hospital environment.
The closing date for artwork submissions is 5pm Wednesday 3 May 2023.
Work for the $24 million Cooma Hospital redevelopment is progressing and due for completion in late 2023. It will deliver enhanced services, facilities and health care to the region, including newly opened maternity and emergency departments.
