NSW recorded 444 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.
Two new cases were acquired overseas, and five previously reported cases have been excluded following further investigation. The total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic is 69,804.
Sadly, NSW Health is today reporting the deaths of four people – three men and one woman.
Three people were in their 70s, and one person was in their 60s. Two people were from south western Sydney and two people were from western Sydney.
Two people were not vaccinated and two people had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The two people who had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine were a man in his 60s with underlying health conditions who died at Nepean Hospital and a woman in her 70s with underlying health conditions who died at the Allity Beechwood Aged Care Facility in Revesby, where she acquired her infection. This is the seventh death linked to an outbreak at this aged care facility.
A man in his 70s from south western Sydney died at home. He tested positive to COVID-19 following his death. He was not vaccinated and had underlying health conditions.
NSW Health extends its sincere condolences to their loved ones.
There have been 448 COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since 16 June 2021 and 504 in total since the start of the pandemic.
There have been 64,125 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.
There are currently 716 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 150 people in intensive care, 76 of whom require ventilation.
There were 105,508 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 88,988.
NSW Health administered 20,677 COVID-19 vaccines in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.
Across NSW, 90.8 per cent of people aged 16 and over have received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 75.2 per cent are fully vaccinated to 11.59pm on Monday 11 October 2021.
In the 12-15 year old age group, 69.7 percent have had their first dose, and 20.3 percent are fully vaccinated.
The total number of vaccines administered in NSW is now 11,178,722 with 3,817,327 doses administered by NSW Health to 8pm last night and 7,361,395 administered by the GP network, pharmacies and other providers.
Of the 444 locally acquired cases reported to 8pm last night, 108 are from South Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD), 87 are from Western Sydney LHD, 78 are from Hunter New England LHD, 36 are from South Eastern Sydney LHD, 34 are from Sydney LHD, 23 are from Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD, 20 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, 17 are from Central Coast LHD, 14 are from Western NSW LHD, 12 are from Northern NSW LHD, nine are from Northern Sydney LHD, two are from Murrumbidgee LHD, one is from Mid North Coast LHD, and one is in a correctional setting, and two yet to be assigned to an LHD.
NSW Health was notified last night of Qantas flight QA509 from Brisbane to Sydney on Saturday 9 October is associated with a confirmed case of COVID-19.
Anyone who was on QA509 which departed Brisbane at 7.10am and arrived in Sydney at 9.45am is a close contact and must get tested and isolate, regardless of the result.
NSW Health has revised the isolation period for close contacts of a COVID-19 case from 14 days to seven days for people who have been fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to their exposure to the virus.
Vaccinated close contacts are now required to isolate for seven days, if a test on the sixth day after exposure is negative. For the next seven days, vaccinated close contacts must still work from home where practicable, not attend hospitality settings such as pubs, cafes and restaurants, or not attend high-risk settings such as hospitals, aged care facilities, childcare centres and schools.
Fully vaccinated close contacts who were identified as a close contact before Monday 11 October may end their isolation either at the end of the previously advised period or at 11.59pm on Monday 18 October, whichever comes first. This is provided that they have had a negative result from a test on day six or later and have no COVID-19 symptoms.
Close contacts who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated, or received their second vaccination within 14 days of their exposure must continue to isolate for the full 14-day period, regardless of their test result. All close contacts must get tested again on day 12.
NSW Health's ongoing sewage surveillance program has detected fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 in sewage samples collected from across NSW, including West Wyalong and Uralla in Hunter New England, Brewarrina in the north west and Wauchope on the mid north coast.
Everyone in these areas is urged to monitor for the onset of symptoms, and if they appear, to immediately be tested and isolate until a negative result is received.
If you are directed to get tested for COVID‑19 or self-isolate at any time, you must follow the rules whether or not the venue or exposure setting is listed on the NSW Health website.
It remains vital that anyone who has any symptoms or is a close or casual contact of a person with COVID-19, isolates and is tested immediately. When testing clinics are busy, please ensure you stay in line, identify yourself to staff and tell them that you have symptoms or are a contact of a case.
Please check the NSW Government website regularly, and follow the relevant health advice if you have attended a venue of concern or travelled on a public transport route at the same time as a confirmed case of COVID-19. This list is being updated regularly as case investigations proceed.
