COVID-19 (Coronavirus) statistics

01 August 2020

Seventeen new cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the 24 hours to 8.00pm last night, bringing the total number of cases in NSW to 3,584. One previously reported case has been excluded.

Early this morning an 83-year-old man, who had COVID-19 linked to the Crossroads Hotel cluster, has passed away. NSW Health extends condolences to the family at this time. His death will be recorded in tomorrow’s figures.

CasesCount
Confirmed cases (including interstate residents in NSW health care facilities)3,584
Deaths (in NSW from confirmed cases)51
Total tests carried out1,462,155

There were 23,458 tests reported in the 24-hour reporting period, compared with 25,318 in the previous 24 hours.

Of the 17 new cases today:

  • Three cases are travellers in hotel quarantine
  • One case is an NSW resident who returned from Victoria
  • Two cases attended the Apollo restaurant
  • Two cases attended the Mounties Club in Mount Pritchard
  • Six cases are contacts of known cases
  • One case is locally acquired with no known source identified
  • Two cases are under investigation

Based on new information, NSW Health has again revised the times that cases while infectious attended the Mounties at 101 Meadows Road Mt Pritchard. Anyone who attended the club during the following times must isolate and get tested regardless of symptoms, and stay isolated for a full 14 days even if they test negative. If symptoms develop, get tested again.

  • Monday 20 July 12.01am - 2.30am
  • Tuesday 21 July 12.15pm – 5.30pm and 8.00pm – 12.30am on 22 July

For the full list of dates for the Mounties and other risk venues and locations associated with confirmed cases, please see Latest news and updates.

Anyone who was at The Mounties on any of these days at other times should also watch for symptoms and immediately isolate and get tested should even mild symptoms occur.

For one of the cases where NSW Health accessed the COVIDSafe App data, a previously unrecognised exposure date from a known venue, Mounties, was identified. This resulted in the identification of an additional 544 contacts. Two people in this group presented for testing and were subsequently confirmed to have COVID-19.

There are now 98 cases associated with Thai Rock Wetherill Park, 57 cases associated with the Crossroads Hotel, eight cases associated with Batemans Bay Soldiers Club, 25 associated with the funeral events and five associated with Mounties in Mount Pritchard. There are 24 cases associated with the Potts Point cluster.

While most cases in the last week have been associated with local clusters and close contact with known cases, seven in the last week have not been able to be linked to known cases. These unlinked cases have been in people from South Western (2), Western Sydney (2), South Western Sydney (2) and Sydney (1) LHDs.

It’s therefore so important that we all keep our family and loved ones safe. To help stop the spread of COVID-19:

  • If you are unwell stay in, get tested and isolate
  • Wash your hands regularly. Take hand sanitiser with you when you go out
  • Keep your distance. Leave 1.5 metres between yourself and others
  • Wear a mask in situations where you cannot physically distance

Anyone directed to undertake a 14-day self-isolation period must stay in isolation for the full period, even if they test negative. This is because early testing may not detect an infection, and release from self-isolation based on a negative test could allow an infectious person to infect others in the community. The self-isolation period is 14 days as most people who are infected and develop symptoms will develop symptoms within 14 days of infection.

There are 107 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health. Nine people were in intensive care and four were ventilated as of 8.00pm last night. Eighty eight per cent of cases are in non-acute, out-of-hospital care.
