Eight new cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, bringing the total number of cases in NSW to 3,346. Of the new cases, two are returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

A record total of 24,467 tests were notified in the 24-hour reporting period, compared with 22,836 tests in the previous 24 hours. There are 101 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health, with one in intensive care. This person does not require a ventilator. In NSW, 2,799 people are known to have recovered from COVID-19.

The new cases reported to 8 pm include:

• a woman in her 20s from Northern NSW who returned from Victoria
• a woman in her 20s from Hunter New England who is the partner of a known case
• a woman in her 30s from South West Sydney who worked at the Thai Rock restaurant in Stockland Mall Wetherill Park on 9, 10, 11,12 and 14 July  
• a man in his 80s, who dined at the Crossroads Hotel on 5 July
• two cases linked to the cluster who did not attend the hotel: a child and a teenager 

Since 8pm last night an additional 5 cases have been reported linked to the hotel cluster. 

• three linked to the hotel cluster but who did not attend the hotel: two men and one woman all in the 20s 
• two members of the same household, a man in his 40s and a teenager 

This brings the number associated with the cluster to 42. This includes 14 who attended the hotel on 3 July, one who attended on 5 July, and 27 who are linked to the cluster but who did not attend the hotel on 3 July.

NSW Health is tracing people who have been in contact with these cases.  

As five recent cases report spending time at the Stockland Mall at Wetherill Park while infectious, NSW Health urges anyone who was at the Mall in the last two weeks, especially at the Thai Rock Restaurant on 9,10,11,12 or 14 July to watch carefully for symptoms, and if they occur isolate themselves and immediately come forward for testing.   

As the Crossroads Hotel cluster expands, a number of venues attended by cases linked to the cluster are under investigation, with ongoing assessment and contact tracing continuing. See full information on venues. 

Anyone feeling unwell – even with the mildest of symptoms such as a runny nose or scratchy throat – is urged to seek testing and self-isolate. Do not go to work or catch public transport until you are cleared of COVID-19. 

NSW has more COVID-19 testing sites than any other State or Territory. All South Western Sydney clinics are open and will continue to operate while there is demand/need. A new location is being sought for the Crossroads Hotel drive-through clinic for when the hotel reopens.

It’s essential that we all take the risk of transmission very seriously and take steps to protect ourselves and loved ones: 

• If you have even mild symptoms, a cold or cough, get tested and stay home until you’re cleared. 
• Keep your distance from others at all times even if you are well.
• If you have been in Victoria, don’t mix with other people until two weeks has passed.   

People who work in high-risk settings such as health care facilities or aged care homes must not to attend work if they have symptoms and must get tested immediately. People should also not visit relatives in these settings if they have even the mildest of symptoms or have recently returned from Victoria or attended affected venues. 

It is essential people follow directions they receive about home isolation and quarantine and maintain COVID-safe practices of physical distancing of 1.5 metres, cough or sneeze into their elbow, and regularly wash their hands.
