COVID-19 (Coronavirus) statistics

08 July 2020

There have been eight new cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in NSW in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

Of today’s new cases, seven are returned travellers in hotel quarantine. The eighth case is a woman in her 30’s from South Western Sydney who has tested positive for COVID-19. However, further testing is underway to determine if this is a recent, or a historical infection. Close contacts have been identified and are in home isolation.

One previous case has been excluded following further analysis, meaning the total number of cases now stands at 3,251.

Count
Confirmed cases (including interstate residents in NSW health care facilities) 3,251
Deaths (in NSW from confirmed cases) 51
Cases reported recovered2,797
Total tests carried out 979,060

A Victorian child holidaying in Merimbula, Southern NSW, has been advised by Victoria Health they are positive with COVID-19. They were tested before leaving Melbourne and the results were originally reported negative. The case and their family were not from a hotspot, when they travelled to NSW on 4 July. After arriving, they learnt the child’s test was reported positive. Before learning the result, the family had visited the Tathra hotel. The hotel has a COVID-19 plan and although the risk to other patrons and staff is very low, they are being contacted.

The case and contacts are in isolation. Given the positive test is from Melbourne, the case is not counted in the NSW total number of cases.

NSW Health is urging anyone with even the mildest of respiratory symptoms or fever in Southern NSW LHD area to attend a COVID-19 clinic or the GP for testing. A full list of COVID-19 testing clinics is available.

The two probable cases identified on 3 and 4 July in Albury are undergoing further testing.

A total of 15,327 tests were notified in the reporting period, compared with 9,746 tests in the previous 24 hours. NSW has now carried out almost 980,000 COVID-19 tests.

There are 69 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health, with one in intensive care. This person does not require a ventilator. In NSW, 2,797 people are known to have recovered from COVID-19.

Anyone feeling unwell – even with the mildest of symptoms such as a runny nose or scratchy throat – is urged to self-isolate and seek testing.
