As at 8pm Thursday 28 May 2020, there have been two additional cases of COVID-19 diagnosed since 8pm 27 May, bringing the total number of cases in NSW to 3,092.

Both new cases are overseas travellers in hotel quarantine.

There were 9,962 tests carried out in the reporting period, compared with 9,872 in the previous 24 hours. Almost 485,000 COVID-19 tests have now been carried out in NSW.

*At least 2,666 people in NSW have recovered from COVID-19.

There are currently 78 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health. This includes one person being treated in an intensive care unit. They require a ventilator.

While the numbers are pleasingly low, recent cases acquired in the community indicate the virus is still likely to be circulating among people with mild symptoms. With the virus still present, the risk of outbreaks and a resurgence of cases remains.

NSW Health is again urging anyone feeling unwell – even with the mildest of symptoms such as a runny nose or scratchy throat – to come forward and get tested, so cases in the community are identified as quickly as possible.

While restrictions have been eased, it remains essential that everyone maintains social distancing to minimise the risk of spread between people. People can unwittingly pass it to others if they are incubating the infection or have very mild symptoms, so we all need to be very careful and practise hand hygiene and maintain social distancing by keeping at least 1.5m away from other people.
