COVID-19 (Coronavirus) statistics

As at 8pm Sunday 17 May 2020, there has only been one additional case of COVID-19 diagnosed since 8pm 16 May, bringing the total number of cases to 3,076. 

There were 5,964 people tested in the reporting period, compared with 10,179 people in the previous 24 hours. 

Nearly 372,000 people have now been tested for COVID-19 in NSW, which has one of the highest testing rates in the world.

NSW Health would like to thank those with symptoms for coming forward, getting tested and ensuring cases in the community are identified as quickly as possible

There have been no new cases associated with Anglicare Newmarch House, meaning the total of cases linked to the facility remains at 71 (37 residents and 34 staff). 

There are currently 100 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health. This includes six people being treated in intensive care units. Two of them require ventilators.

There are now 2,612 people who have recovered from COVID-19 in NSW.

There has been one new death in the 24-hour reporting period. This brings the total number of deaths in NSW to 48.

A male in his 60s with confirmed COVID-19 has passed away in Concord Hospital. He was linked to a confirmed case. 

NSW Health extends its deepest condolences to his family.

NSW Health is urging people with symptoms, including mild symptoms, to be tested to ensure as many cases of COVID-19 in the community are identified as quickly as possible.

This is particularly important in the Hills and Penrith local government areas to help identify cases and understand transmission. Canada Bay, Canterbury-Bankstown and Cumberland local government areas are no longer identified for increased testing.  All areas of concern for community transmission in NSW are publicly available and listed at areas of concern for community transmission in NSW.
