Clinical placements are essential to the clinical and professional development of Occupational Therapy students in training them to become competent therapists.
A shared leadership model was utilised to develop the skills of all staff in student education. This facilitated a cultural change as staff collaboratively developed and implemented the Occupational Therapy Student Intensity Training Program (SITP), engaging in monitoring and reporting processes.
The SITP framework was aligned to NSW Health's CORE values in providing a structured strategy to empower both staff and students in the provision of quality clinical placements. This resulted in a significant increase in the number of student placements since the commencement of the project.
