Healthy eating

Food is a vital part of life. What we eat has a major impact on our growth and development as children and contributes to our health and wellbeing as adults.

Creating a healthier lifestyle does not involve completely changing all your habits. You can make small, simple changes that will have big, lasting impacts on your health.

Eating a diet rich in a variety of fruits and vegetables is important for your overall health because these food groups help lower the risk of some health problems including coronary heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and some cancers.

Drinking plenty of water is an important part of staying healthy. It's also free and contains zero kilojoules. Drinks such as soft drinks, energy drinks, cordials, fruit juices and sports drinks are high in sugar and should rarely be consumed. Take a look at these tips for drinking more water

If you drink alcohol, try to reduce your intake by limiting yourself to one or two standard drinks per day and avoid drinking every day.
