Mental health data

People living with mental illness, particularly those with severe mental illness, are more at risk of experiencing a range of adverse health outcomes and have a lower average life expectancy than the general population.

The NSW Government will continue to improve mental health services and the wellbeing of the community in partnership with non-government organisations (NGOs), consumers and carers to deliver better lives for people with mental illness, their families and carers.

The NSW Health Strategic Framework and Workforce Plan for Mental Health 2018-2022 sets out NSW Health’s strategic actions to improve the mental health and wellbeing of people with lived experience of mental illness. The Strategic Framework for Suicide Prevention in NSW 2022-2027 will guide activities on a journey towards zero suicides in NSW.

NSW Health publishes a range of data, interactive statistics and reports about mental health. More information can be found at Mental health.
