So much to explore in the Northern NSW region

The Northern NSW district has a subtropical climate, some of the best surfing beaches in Australia, thriving arts communities, myriad farmers markets, and the best beef in the country. From Grafton, the Jacaranda City, in the south of the region, to Tweed, home of champion surfers Mick Fanning and Stephanie Gilmore. There’s Casino, Beef Capital of Australia, and Byron Bay, which hosts many music and arts festivals annually. Lismore is home to painters, woodworkers, ceramists, filmmakers, musicians, poets, designers and dancers. Maclean is known as the Scottish Town of Australia and has been hosting a Highland Gathering for the past 110 years.

Looming high above is Mt Warning, an extinct volcano within Wollumbin National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. The park includes lands of traditional significance to the local Bundjalung people; Wolllumbin means cloud-catcher. Whether you’re out surfing The Point with famous local Chris Hemsworth, kayaking near whales, dolphins and turtles, catching mud crab in the mangroves, birdwatching for honeyeaters, sea eagles, black cockatoos and bowerbirds, hand-gliding, cycling, camping, fishing, swimming, enjoying local produce at the many weekend markets, or visiting the Big Prawn or the Thursday Plantation – there is lots to do year-round.
