In December 2013, research was commissioned in recognition of the need to influence the career pathways of medical students to encourage greater engagement in medical careers identified as priority areas for growth.
This report summarises the findings from consultation with medical workforce and training stakeholders, junior doctors and vocational trainees, and medical students. The research was qualitative in approach, and included only a small sample of junior doctors and medical students. The findings provide some insight into the perspectives of medical students and junior doctors regarding career planning, and some understanding of their information needs as they progress through their medical and vocational training.
