Finalist: Volunteer of the Year
Neil has been a dedicated volunteer at Concord Hospital since 2022. After a significant personal lived experience with healthcare, he decided to give back as a Volunteer and Consumer Representative.
Neil’s collaborative problem-solving skills provided an innovative solution for volunteers who had difficulty logging in using their phone. Neil created several volunteer instructional training videos demonstrating how to make therapeutic gloves for the Burns Unit, as well as vascular catheterisation and fistula packs for the Dialysis Unit.
Neil recently developed a prototype for a specialist glove for the Burns Rehabilitation Unit. He now leads a team of volunteers who produce the gloves and improve patient care through innovation and collaboration.
Neil embodies the NSW Health CORE values and has driven these values throughout Concord Hospital’s Volunteer Service which recently regrouped and grew following COVID-19. The authenticity of the hospital’s volunteers and their commitment to NSW Health CORE values is evident throughout the hospital and positively impacts on patient care and organisational culture.
