Finalist: Health Innovation​ Award

The Engage Outpatients (EO) solution revolutionises the management of outpatient referrals. eHealth NSW, in partnership with the NSW Ministry of Health and Local Health Districts (LHDs), developed and co-designed EO with patients, clinicians, and General Practitioners.

Significant benefits of this solution include:

• Improved patient experience: notifications available in 10 languages.
• Digital innovation: replacing paper-based processes, used by many GPs and outpatient clinics, with a secure, digital solution.
• Reduced staff admin burden: faster access to accurate patient information, increasing efficiency and staff wellbeing.
• Streamlined operations: automated workflows improve efficiency and data accuracy.
• Data-driven decision making: real-time reporting optimising outpatient service planning.

Fourteen hospitals in 7 local health districts have implemented the EO solution. The electronic Referral Management System (eRMS) has processed over 60,000 referrals. This project streamlines the referral process, improves communication, and enhances patient care.​
