Section 12 A of the Public Health Act
I Kerry Chant, Chief Health Officer, being of the view that there is a risk to the health or safety of the public or a sector of the public, make the following public statement identifying and giving warnings or information about the risk.

 

Since April 2024, five patients have presented to NSW Health Emergency Departments experiencing unexpected toxicity soon after consuming Uncle Frog's Mushroom Gummies. Similar cases have also been reported in other Australian jurisdictions.

While investigations are ongoing, two varieties of these products have been associated with the unexpected toxicity, the Cordyceps Mushroom Gummies and the Lion's Mane Mushroom Gummies (images below)

The patients have experienced various symptoms including:

  • Nausea and/or persistent vomiting
  • Seizure like activity and involuntary movements (such as arms/legs twitching, eye movements)
  • Anxiety
  • Disturbing hallucinations
  • Drowsiness or loss of consciousness
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Racing heart/pulse

The community is warned not to consume these products. If you have purchased these products, they should be disposed of in a safe and secure manner, away from children and pets.

  • Dispose of these products safely. The packaging will appeal to children, so ensure it is safe from children and pets.
  • Any businesses stocking this product should dispose of it immediately.
