In NSW, the largest percentage increases in mothers giving birth occurred in the Southern NSW and Hunter New England Local Health Districts, where the number increased by 8.2% and 5.6% respectively between 2018 and 2022. The largest decreases occurred in the Northern Sydney and Sydney Local Health Districts, where the number decreased by 13.4% and 11.7% respectively between 2018 and 2022. In 2022, 30.8% of mothers giving birth were residents in the South Western Sydney and Western Sydney Local Health Districts, similar to previous years.
