Overview

As expected, in 2021 perinatal mortality rates in NSW increased with greater prematurity. Of the 883 perinatal deaths in 2021, 546 (61.8%) occurred in extremely pre-term babies (less than 28 weeks).

Neonatal deaths comprise babies who were born and died in NSW, including babies who died after discharge or transfer from the hospital of birth.
