Transcript of Leona McGrath: Dental Van Artwork.

Leona McGrath: Hi, my name is Leona McGrath, I'm a proud Aboriginal woman originally from the Wongaburra people of Great Keppel Island and the Guugu Yimithirr people of Far North Queensland.

I feel very proud that my artwork is going to be on this mobile dental clinics and that children from disadvantaged areas will be able to access dental checks. I feel a strong connection to this country are up and Redfern and Waterloo.

I was quite excited when I found out what the project was and very proud to be able to, thinking that my artwork would be representing something for New South Wales Health and being in communities.

I came up with a sketch and then I thought how can we incorporate the dental clinics, firstly, how can I represent that in Aboriginal art and then how can I help for the community to understand. This symbol is the symbol of journey, the smaller circles with the dots and that represents community and that's moving of the communities moving around the state. This symbol represents the mobile dental clinics and this one represents, with that symbol in the center, represents the New South Wales health facilities across the state. So these symbols mean community, the half circles and the straight lines mean male and female and this is camp fire.

So these are the communities in New South Wales, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities. The red represents the earth, the land, the green, the flora. These are the waterways, the beaches, the rivers and the creeks. So I feel very proud to be involved in this project, knowing that kids from disadvantaged areas will be able to access dental checks once a year.
