Patients and staff at Murwillumbah District Hospital are benefitting from improved facilities, with a close to $2 million renovation now complete.

Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said the works delivered upgrades to the emergency department triage area and reception, medical imaging reception, and palliative care room.

"Anyone needing to come to the emergency department will now be able to enter and navigate the space much more easily, which is a real benefit to this local community," Minister Park said.

"Upgrades to the medical imaging department are also enabling patients and staff to have a better experience, improving the flow of patients through the unit and creating a brighter and more inviting environment.

"The upgrades have made the emergency department and medical imaging areas more accessible for people with a disability."

"The investment in the future of Murwillumbah District Hospital recognises the important role it plays in delivering excellent patient-centred care, which we know the local community values highly."

Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin said the upgraded palliative care room provides a peaceful space.

"Patients, their families and carers should feel as comfortable as possible in hospital, and the palliative care room is a beautiful space which allows people to stay together and connect, taking in the relaxing views of the Tweed valley," Ms Saffin said.

"What is also really lovely about the palliative care space is the facilities for family members to stay overnight with their loved one, as well as a living room with a breakout area featuring tea and coffee making facilities."
